Build something else. An 8.25 from a 97+ Cherokee is a good choice.

You won't find a spool for it and alloy shafts are a waste.

ok Im going to figure out my ratio on front dana 30 axle and find a different rear axle. I installed a lower ratio front and rear and dont remember what ratio I installed. The reason I dont remember is I was in a bad accident and had a tbi. This memory loss sucks.

It depends on your driving style and tire size.

35s are pushing a D30 especially if it's an earlier version with the smaller u-joints. Out of curiosity what t-case are you running because all the Sammys I see use passenger side drop front axles and offset rears.

the tranny and t-case outta the d-50 (mitsuibi mighty max)I even buit drive shaft using a rectangle peice of solid stock with tubing that slips right on stock. I had to drill and tap t-case output so I could blot yoke to output shaft. I forget exacatly but the shaft will slide about a foot.

4.88s are the lowest you can get for d30.
If you don't have a heavy foot you can get away with 37s on a built 30.

And your definition of built? Not being sarcastic. Mine has 30 spline G2 axles, as a weekend warrior would it handle the 37"tires? And how are 4:88/ 37" combo on the highway?

If you're gonna run 37's on the 30 on the highway, 4.88's is the only option you have I believe... So it will be the best option out there. I would also truss, upgrade all steering and track bar, and shafts (u joints). What shafts are in it now?

Runs better on the highway than 4.88/33s. I've done a lot of research before I decided to build the d30, chromos/sleeves/gussets/truss, new balljoints, RK steering and trackbar. I ran 37x12.5s for a bit but didn't like them, too tall and skinny, jeep felt top heavy and I didn't really want to bumpstop the rear, I'm at 4.5. There are plenty of people who do it for me to feel comfortable doing it. Would I rally the **** out of it? No.
I'm going to 35s if I can find the ones I want.

G2 chromoly 30 spline, Eaton E locker in there now, gonna do Serious otk, Ruff Stuff track bar, and a truss. The rear is a d44, not built. With 4:10/35" combo I don't ever recall gassing it while offroad, so when you said "not having a heavy foot" I got curious. Thanks for the input! :-) I gotta go look for the ratio chart to get a better idea on highway RPMs..

I plan on staying at 4.5" also, and understand the tires being skinny. Why not bumpstop the rear? Too much limiting the flex?
