I was standing back looking at my XJ today and noticed that the drivers side rear tire is only like 1.5" away from the lower quarter while the front side of the tire is like 4-5" away from the body. Passenger side is dead center, about 2.5-3" front and rear.

Fenders are cut, but I did it evenly all the way around and the same on both sides.

Leaf spring is not broken, u-bolts are tight, axle appears to still be sitting where it should be on the leaf so I don't think the center pin is broken, never been wrecked, barely any rust on the whole thing...

Any thoughts?

 

As far as I know, it's totally normal for XJ and ZJ. There are photos of lifted XJs that you can clearly see the off-alignment. For example (I hope the owners of the photos won't mind):

When you hit a bump with the rear, it's going to move back and up, so more space behind the wheel than in front makes sense.

 

I'm with scott when the rear suspension compresses the shackle bends back so the leaf moves back with it.If the rear end was centered and the suspension compressed the tire would kill the rear of the wheel well.

 

Y'all aren't getting what I am saying... my drivers side rear is almost touching the rear side of the quarter

pics. Did you tighten the leaf springs/shackles while it was sitting on its own weight? Sounds like you have some preloaded bushings somewhere...

 

Will try to remember to get some pics in the morning. I have never loosened the leaf springs or shackles.

I have a bare metal spot where the tire has been rubbing on the inner fenders, on the drivers side only...

bushings look to be centered (as in not completely shot and let it move)

 

Pic, both sides are now like this. It does have blocks in the back which SHOULD just push the axle straight down, not forward like arched leaves do. I'm planning to build an s10 bastard pack for it, just haven't had time.

Just can't figure out why it's pushed backward, there is actually a spot on the drivers side lower edge of fender where the tire has hit it.

3" blocks, cut/fold, and 33x12.5 that measure out to 32"...

 

It looks a lot worse in person by the way
