Want to take the lady out sledding this week. Usually tow my sled on a 4x8 trailer no problem. If I rent one for her to use I will have to tow a 4 place trailer with two sleds on it. Probably about 30 miles through the mountains to my spot. Is this to much for the XJ to handle or nothing to worry about? Any experience towing this same package would be great. Thanks.

 

don't see why not.

as long as your hitch and frame is in good condition as the two sleds will be at the front of the trailer with the axles behind the sleds. those 4x sled trailers were designed to have 4 sleds to even out the weight. all your weight will be in front of the axles on the hitch. but i'm sure as long as your jeep is in good condition and you have a tranny cooler, you should be just fine.

 

sometimes rental places will require you to have a full size rig to get a big trailer... just something to keep in mind

 

You shouldn't have a problem.

 

Should be no problem. Just keep in mind to run it out of overdrive when climbing any long grades or if it starts shifting alot. I tow my sleds 200+ miles one way to ride at 65 to 75 mph.

 

Wont be a problem man- Ive pulled 4 atvs at once, a pontoon boat, several other boats, another car and a 5500lb Uhaul- no problems as of yet. I do have the load bearing hitch though.

 

My brother towed out our sleds last year in his wimpy v6 dakota. A 4.0 can handle two sleds easily.

 

i'm sure it can handle 4 sleds. but it's just that having the 2 sleds on a 4 sled trailer, with the sleds weight between the hitch and the trailer axles, it may put more tongue weight than preferred.
i think tongue weight is limited to 500 lbs.

easy said. if you put the sleds in the rear two spots, it weighs the rear of the trailer too much and the trailer will wander.
you can't really mount them above the axle with the design of these trailers.
i would just leave them in the front spots and hope the hitch and mounting area of the frame is in good shape.
however it may be at the limit for tongue weight, but shouldn't be dangerous.

my thoughts exactly, but for the op, it seems that it's not in the cards for now.
but i believe he should be fine, just take it out on a trial run to see how it handles behind the jeep. heck, for all it takes, try with both up front, both in back and even one up and one back on each side.

No time for all that. Going to load them in the front of the trailer. Should be fine. Hell better be. Cause Im going out with the lady on Weds. and then have to pull a single sled down to Alpine thursday. The next day. Well thanks guys for all your input. I'll let you know how it goes.
