Buying way out of zip code
Paid off the Caddy, selling as soon as title comes in. Still looking around and I keep seeing really good deals on XJ's out of my area range. I really can't drive 500 miles to go pick up a vehicle.
What would be some suggestions? I know it is possible to have a car shipped to you but is that really viable and reliable? I am in middle Tennessee and I have scoured forums, classifieds, car dealers etc. Just seems like this area is lacking in decent XJ's. I have seen a few come up on CL but they go super fast and I will look every day for weeks and not see another good one. I am buying a daily driver so the car I am selling leaves me without a vehicle. I figured I might have to rent a car for a week until I can get somewhere and snag one.
Any advice on how to search confidentially out of my range?

X2, a decent shipper should be a safe bet as well, but in any case I'd highly recommend looking at the vehicle in person before buying. I'd be less worried about the reliability of the shipper (assuming you use a reputable one) than someone selling a piece of junk that "looks" good in the pictures (which may not even be of the actual vehicle they are selling) and ripping you off.

Never buy any car with out seeing it in person and driving it first. And unless its on ebay most private sellers won't see to a person out of state because they think its a scam.

Never try and buy an XJ like your doing now on a have to have anything right now deal. You will end up getting screwed every time, it takes time to fine to find an exact car of any kind most of all a "Good" XJ takes some looking for.
Never, Never buy anything sight unseen!
Think about this before jumping on the first thing that comes along, Good Luck!

I agree with these guys! Never buy without looking at it and driving it or having it checked out by a reputable shop!
I have been burned twice buying XJ's on Ebay..
