I've taken my XJ out plenty of time when it was completely stock minus some no name all terrains with very little tread. It does pretty good stock. Don't get me wrong, though. I've gotten stuck plenty of times when I bit off more than I can chew. Last winter I used my Jeep to break though a 60 foot long puddle that was frozen over without getting stuck. Bottom line is, you can do a lot with a stock Cherokee.

I got stuck to much at stock height which is why I lifted mine. You will get stuck from time to time but everyone does no matter how much lift your running. Just know the limits of your xj at factory height and you will be fine.

I wheeled my rig when it was stock height all the time, clearance was definitely an issue on some trails I did, but a xj is can do alot at stock height, if u do keep it stock id atleast try to find some beefy tires to put on it, if u look in my album I have a couple old wheeling pics when it was stock

mine is stock hight, and i made it through mud holes that Z71's on 33's got stuck in,and i had A/T's at the time,i dont have a rear sway bar so i have good enough flex for mild trails

I wheeled many trails while stock. I suggest it BEFORE lifting so you see what it can do stock. then upgrade as NEEDED.

Jeep does great stock, I hit some decent trails that most guys ran with 31s to 33s.

If ur just doing basic trails that has nothing you really need to crawl over then ull be fine at stock height, if u plan on keeping it stock get a set of diff guards and if ur rig isnt to saggy some 30s could always do a little trimming too, ditch ur rear swaybar if u havent already and make some homebrewed quick discos along with some recovery points (which should be the first thing on ur list) and ull be all set.
