I have an np231 I'm a little leary about the whole part time thing. Do you think I should upgrade? Can I upgrade? Or is the np231 a good tc and I'm just thinking to much?

The best upgrade is a 4 to 1 Teralow (no, not becaue I sell them).

most people will never have an issue with it. if ya break it, they are cheap to fix or replace. only issue ive had in several years of abuse on big tires is melted shift forks due to oddly worn cogs in my range shift collar.

I feel just the opposite I don't like full time cases. The 231 is a pretty good case as is and pretty easy to make better.https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f67/bu...t-case-126689/
I prefer the 242 just because I like to have the full time option in snow and heavy rain, but like others have said, there's not much after market support. Especially if you need an SYE for lifts. The only quality one I can think of offhand is Tom Wood's and they're pricey.
The 231 is a solid case and a better choice if you plan on lifting/building a rig. The 242 is a better case if you're staying stock or close to stock.
