Default Automatic Gearshift ****-Oval plastic ring popped-out

Hello,


In my 1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport (2WD) automatic drive, the oval plastic ring (that holds the pushing/pressing piece) on the gearshift **** popped out.


I tried to put it back in, but it doesn't seem to fit/sit in the groove.


Should I buy the Gearshift ****...see below links:

I have a question Cruiser. Mine was missing and never had one so I can't look to see how it was made. I have been just pushing down on it as I push the side button. May I ask how to remove these when still intact???

Yank it straight off.
Set the "new" one on the shifter and slightly depress the button and whack it.

Lol... I had an idea this may be the case. How prone are they to break when you yank them off? I suppose it might be wiser for me to just try and source a new clip for the old handle? I finally wrapped mine with black electrical tape to hold it in place but it gets so hot out here the slight spring preload pushes it off from under the tape and I'm getting tired of re-wrapping it.

They rarely fail.

No clips. Plastic tabs.

Thank you! I had no idea how they were made since mine are apparently gone. If they are fairly durable then I will look for one next trip to the wrecking yard. Main thing for me was was getting it off without breaking it. lol

I know when I removed mine which I'm definitely sure was for the first time a few of the clips that hold it on broke off. Maybe 3 or 4 and probably brittle due to age. I was concerned that it wouldn't hold when I reinstalled it but it's fine. Plenty clips still there to hold it.
