Is there a way to check what axels I have?

Is there a disadvantage to having a locker for everyday driving?

what do you mean? what spline, as in 27 or 29 spline? or what axle, dana 35 or C8.25? if you have a C8.25, you have a 29 spline.

and not really, you'll just want to make sure you're used to it before you go hauling around turns and slamming the skinny pedal. I run my front with a locker, rear is open at the moment. so I can't really comment as far as any disadvantages of a rear locker, other than what I already said.

D35 is rounded all the way around the pumpkin, while a C8.25 has a flat bottom. or if you can't tell with that, look at the diff cover, and look at the top right side of the pumpkin, and there is a 35C if its a D35.

Ok I think it's the 8.25

with that said is that Spartan a Lunch Box Locker?

I am now learning so bare with me just trying to figure out what direction to go in...

I want lockers but I dont want something that will effect my daily driver.

I read somewhere that I should not put a lunch box in the back only in the front

Yes, the Spartan is a lunch box locker. If you weren't to run a lunch box, you'd have to get a Detroit, which will run you around 600-650$. People say that with a rear lunch box, you risk breaking a carrier. which may happen on a D35, but you have a way lower risk of doing that with a C8.25. Either way, an automatic locker, is an automatic locker, full carrier or lunch box.

It's a decent axle it should be fine for what your doing. Being that your jeep is a 97(right?) you should have the 29 spline shafts. Putting a lunch box locker spartan, Aussie, Detroit, will give you a little bit of difference in your daily driver. When turning you get a little bit of a chirp from out back. And you might feel that you lose a little bit of turning radius, for example turning into a parking space. Feels like it kind of pushes you forward instead of turning freely. I'm my opinion if money was out of picture I would do an arb. However I was fine having a lunchbox in the rear with small changes to daily driving.

Also when slowing down to take a right hand corner mine seemed to "buck" a little but with adjustment to driving no big deal
