So it looks like your kit with the Eaton M62 SC is legal to use in CA. Looks like I've got some more saving up to do but I can't wait!

UPDATE:
Went and chatted with the ref yesterday. Indeed, 2000 and up are now done entirely from the OBD port. So, it's down to the visual inspection, roll of the dice as to the tech that does the inspection. If you have the CARB stickers, though, you should be fine...

That's awesome news. Guess I'll open another savings account for the engine rebuild fund

You know, a lot of scan tools/scan software can tell you if you'll pass smog...grab one that does so, if you don't have one already, and then you'll know BEFORE you go if it will pass...then, it's just down to the visual. If done properly, though, you shouldn't have an issue.

up here, in southern ontario, it's 99 and up that does only OBD testing. as long as you don't throw any codes, you pass. but you can simply get it tested as hotrod if it's not stock. ie, motor swap, modified, etc.
88 to 98 has tailpipe testing, 99 and up OBD testing.

but up where i live, there is no testing.

california has always been tough on smog testing since the 80's.
i remember reading hotrod magazine when i was a kid that had blowers and tunnel rams or carbs that had that little red print "not legal in california"

In PA, 96+ OBD2 only need computer scan. No codes=pass.
We pass every year with the superchargers on '98 and '99 XJs
