My cb is tuned with a top of the line Wilson 5/8 wave length whip antenna and its been verified to send and receive signal out to 10 miles. To gain any more would require more modification.

Most cb radios out of the box with a decent antenna and proper swr tune will get you at best 5 miles.

For example, if your antenna isn't properly tuned to the cb and you have a high SWR you can and will fry the radio eventually if you transmit out.

I've spent many many hours reading information and talking with cb technicians and its paid off. I now have a perfectly performing cb and antenna with no issues, no engine noise, and almost no static (yes a little static is to be expected no matter what)
I know that. However You can only receive a signal that is transmitted over that distance yes? That is why I'm saying it would have to do with someone that has a radio capable of transmitting over that distance. Terrain would also be a factor. For instance transmitting in a canyon isn't going to have the same range as transmitting on a flat plain.

When the atmospheric conditions are just right, its possible to transmit and receive far beyond that....I'm talking cross country!! Though its not often it happens I've heard stories of guys reaching out as far as upstate new york from southern california.

Get it tuned by a cb technician. I recommend a cobra 29 If you want the most bang for your buck and modification capabilities. I went with the cobra 25 because of size and fitment in the xj.

I don't really mess with the settings while driving. Only thing I might mess with is the channel 9, 19, select switch and the channel select ****. I leave the channel on 1 and count clicks to switch channels.
