oh boy, 5.2 huh? does your cherokee have a "grand" label on the doors & hatch?? marcia, marcia, marcia....u might get flamed for this, but when inquiring on a problem, its better to give thorough information on your vehicle & the symptoms....also best to post the question in the correct section....I.E. OEM Tech or Grand Cherokee Tech

so, u have a V8 5.2L Grand Cherokee (ZJ, as opposed to "plain" Cherokee XJ), most likely an automatic, & u've taken educated steps to resolve the problem, but what exactly is it doing when it has "idle issues"??....idles to high, idles to low, only in park/neutral, sputters under acceleration....does it have a check engine light on? have u gotten the code read??

welcome to the forum, & good luck!!

Thanks for your reply !! This jeep has been taken REALLY good care of....no 4 wheeling here lol ( I know it defeats the purpose , but I like it pretty and clean ) . It just hit 170,000 miles so I know it is going to have some issues I just like to catch and fix anything before it turns into something big.....hoping the O2 sensor will help figure it can't hurt I guess they are the original ! It started with my rpms surging while driving down the road...they go up and down....so I put a new idle sensor on....went to crank it yesterday and it cranked right up then immediately died...would start right back up but cut right off due to the idling so I replaced tps , map ,and idle sensor figuring I'd kill all 3 birds with 1 stone....engine light went off and has stayed off but about 20 miles later got that problem again like it was wanting to cut off while I'm going 40-45 mph.........??? Apparently it's a jeep thing but it's going to drive me nuts until I can figure out what it is....and in case you can't tell by the name I'm female so I'm no mechanic ....lol...........any suggestions would help

My suggestion would be to check codes. The engine light was on telling you something was wrong. That's why they are there, engineers decided it would be great if a vehicle diagnosed its self and kept people from guessing, throwing parts at their vehicles.
Get the codes read before you do any thing else. An o2 sensor is not going to make it stall, or surge so don't waste any more money.

Autozone told me that they couldn't read it if the check engine light was off......and of course it went off and ran freat for 3 whole days now coming home from work today the same thing...going 60mph rpms jumping around for a few minutes and then just quit....I took the O2 sensor back....traded it in on a crank sensor and if that don't work going to check the fuel filter I guess and if that doesn't do I give up ! Thanks for your responses....I need all the help I can get I love this dam Jeep but this is driving me nuts

thats not true unless the codes were cleared. If it went out on its own it is still a stored code and can be read.

^^x2^^

dont whole heartedly trust the part store monkeys behind the counter....u dont have to be too automotively inclined to work there

why return the o2 sensor? keep it & install it, it'll only benefit
