I gotta give you props for trying something new. Jeeps are top heavy so it will flip a lot quicker but it can be done.... remember anything is really possible if you put your mind to it. They said that landing on the moon was never going to happen and it did live on TV. As for the vid on youtube if you look he wasn't spinning the tires fast enough to maintain a loss of traction allowing him to get traction when he didn't want it and in the maneuver that he was doing it caused him to flip.
You will need to rebuild your trans way faster doing this because it's an auto. You will burn out your clutches like you will your tires. A manual will last longer but not by much. DON'T lift your jeep. Lowering it actually would be what you should do. You will also need to look into preventing axle wrap and trussing the axle a little to help it survive the abuse you are putting into. Look into adding another trans cooler and and engine oil cooler both of these will lengthen the life of the engine and trans. Hope this is the answers you are looking for.

it can probably be done, but should be set up properly
it should be a 2wd, should be lowered, and have the right tires.
dont just take any old cherokee and try it. actually, i wouldnt waste my time even though you could do it with enough bull****

If you are going to do this with the auto tranny you need to convert it to a manual valve body transmission. Other than that I think that XJDC said it best, and I quote, "make sure you make a video so we can all watch you roll an XJ for no real reason. don't forget your helmet... " unquote.

Watched that vid again for a third time and I think that the driver wanted to put it on two wheels?

Nothing wrong with a Civic, but they don't drift. E-brake slides or reverse donuts only. FWDFTMFL.
I'd be afraid to seriously drift a Cherokee at stock ride height, but I think it would be kinda cool to build a RWD XJ for it. There's a guy running an 81 W123 Mercedes diesel wagon in drift right now, so anything's possible. He's been doing pretty well using the original Mercedes engine, but he's running like 16lbs of boost, and the diff and rear suspension from an RX7.
I've slid mine around on a snowy parking lot without feeling tippy, but the problem always comes in when you transfer from low traction to high traction whilst going sideways.
If I were going to do up an XJ for drift, I'd start with a base 2WD manual and a 4.7 stroker. I think that would provide enough torque that you wouldn't need to turbo. Then convert the rear to multilink and shortarms front and rear. Some custom springs and try to lower 3-4" from stock. Maybe chopped top to lower COG.
I think a bigger problem than the ride height is going to be the solid axles, because you'd be fairly limited on what you can do in the way of camber adjustment, and I think it would tend to be squirrelly sliding over bumps. At least coming up with some independent front end conversion would probably be advantageous.
Oh well, just thinking. By far, an XJ wouldn't be the best platform for drift, I just think it would be cool to see one.

I have not heard of the manual trans being prone to breaking parts, but that doesn't mean that wouldn't be your case do to the fact that drifting was not the origonal intent of the vehicle and therefore you could run into problems. Anyhow, a manual valve body transmission would be better for what you want to do anyhow.
My advice to you would be dont remove your rear sway bar. That sounds kinda funny on this forum considering we tell people that it is ok to do, but its not for you. If anything upgrade the sway bars. Then you will be tokyo drifting all over town.
That isn't drifting... And what's going to mess up the transmission is the e-brake action; seen on friends cars. You're just wasting tires for a good laugh; shouldn't hurt much. Maintaining car control while in a slide is drifting...
Btw.. learn SOME basic grammar/spelling skills so you don't look like such an idiot.
