Hello all,

I am looking to get a car for my sister-in-law who is going to start driving soon. I found a 94 Cherokee 2-door 4x4 manual with 282k miles that doesn't run and supposedly has a blown head gasket. They said it also needs a "belt and battery". Seller is asking $700.

I have a 98, and I know the earlier ones are pretty different, what common things should I be looking for with this XJ? Is there a way for me to check drivetrain components if it doesn't run?

That's a lot of money for a dead jeep with known mechanical issues. That being said, I'm a mechanic and love to tinker on stuff. But I would never buy a non running project for an in-law.

 

I'm not buying it to dump on her, I would buy it and fix it for her to drive. I would not pay asking price either but don't like to negotiate until I have seen what I'm negotiating for

 

as long as you fix it up, sounds like a good deal
