Hey guys, my last post was about lift ideas. Was not very clear on a few things.

So my budget is 2 grand.
I want long arm
I would love to go no higher than 6.5

I have a 2000 xj sitting stock with 31's and minor fender trim.

I am just having trouble with what lift is the best for me. I do trail rides mostly out of Mojave Trail and ocotillo, occasionally running rocks in Johnson Valley.

Any and all help is appreciated!

for a 100% complete kit with high quality parts, it's a little more than 2k but it's what I would do if I could go back. I've spent more time and money fooling around trying to figure it all out on my own.



Never heard anything bad about rubicon express which is what these kits mainly consist of.

that's an ok kit. but you could also look into rock krawler, staangs fab and clayton.

most long arm kits only consist of hard parts, you will need to purchase your coils to get you the height you want.
long arm kits usually work for heights from 4.5 to 7.5 comfortably.

it may not be 100% perfect but it's a good kit and it's all together already at a cheaper price than you can buy seperate.

Having gone through prob 5 different configurations, I've come to the conclusion that piecing together what you want is almost always better both ride and money wise, than buying a "complete" kit from one place.

Buy the long arm kit you like for $700-800, then spend the rest piecing together the suspension parts you want: coils, full leaf packs, TB, ext brake lines, etc.

It can def be done for $2k, even less, if you shop smart with coupon codes, free shipping, and shop around holidays.

i agree. it's an ok kit. he does a great job at including what you need.
i just don't like the idea you have to remove the crossmember and arms just to do any transmission work, that's all. plus i like currie johnny joints. but that's only my preference...

I agree piece it together you will have a much better quality kit of the parts YOU want.


If 2K is all you have to spend I hope you already have a larger tire for that size lift a 31" would look very funny. Also have you priced the gears and lockers and an SYE with a new Driveshaft yet and all the other items there are quite a few in fact.

yeah, you're not gonna be able to do front and rear with all hardware for 2 grand.

piece it together as mentioned, it will be cheaper.

if you already have springs, just get a long arm upgrade kit that only comes with arms, joints and cross member. you can usually get that kit for 7 to 8 hundred bux.

Between LA's and suspension stuff he could easily stay around 2k. He didn't mention anything about gears/axles/tires/etc.

So strictly suspension you could easily do it for $2k if you shop smart.

front long arms and rear leafs, yeah. but not front AND rear long arms with coils, shocks, track bar, brake lines, steering links, sway bar links, etc...

best to start doing all his research to see how each kit is put together and check the ratings and feedback for the ones he's interested in. you'd be surprised just how poor some of these kits are designed.

bds / full traction are others that seem to be popular.

I will be getting bigger tires definitely haha. Now I was looking at Rough Country Long Arm kits and some metal claw, as well as Clayton. All kits came with everything I need, and even a SYE and rear CV driveshaft for 2,200. Now you and the other guys mentioned piecing all together to get what I like.where would I start?

I wouldn't go rough country. I have rough country and it sucks. I only have the 3" lift but it isn't good. Also I heard their crossmember robs an inch of clearance.

Hmm.. well this for sure is a hard decision. Can you provide me with some good brands to go and check out? I thought Rough Country was good, you aren't the only person that said that about RC.

when I go long arm I'll probably get the b lee 3 link because they seen good. They're fairly priced, and I already have most of the other stuff so a full kit won't do me any good.
