ok im new here a buddy of mine told me this is the best place to get help i have an 88 jeep cherokee 4.0 and the jeep will turn over and run but when i turn the key off it stays running im out of ideas so any info would be helpful

 

Bad ignition switch. It is at the base of the steering column. Not the key part. Look down there and unplug it. The engine will quit then. Replace it and you will be good to go.

 

Have you checked the wiring to the ignition? sounds like like one of the wires is bad or disconnected. Or a bad ignition switch
