Default '87 Cherokee-Expert knowledge needed

I'm a newbie from North Carolina, looking to buy my first Jeep Cherokee. This will not be a daily driver, just a weekend toy. I've read forums about every year for Jeep Cherokee's, and the pro's and con's. I was ready to buy a '01 Cherokee, but the deal fell thru. Now, I'm looking at very nice '87 project, and would like some opinions on this particular Jeep. It's clean and rust free, body excellent. Manual windows and locks, auto, 4x4, 178k miles, cruise, 4.0L, tilt, power steering, but doesn't run or drive and has been sitting unused for 10 years. Owner says it ran when parked. Engine is not locked up. It needs everything. $1000 or best offer. The old guy is in his 80's and I don't want to **** him off, but I'm thinking $400. Pictures coming.

Grab it. Probably needs a lot less than you think.

Just looked at the Carfax, vehicle has been sitting unused since Dec 5 2000. From '87 to '96, 178k miles were put on this Cherokee. From '96 to '00, 560 miles.

Today, I offered the guy $500. He said he turned down $800 twice, and would rather see it rot, than sell it for less than $1000. I said good luck.

Pass, no one just parks a drivable vehicle.

No way he gets 1K for it. Should have taken $800 when he had the chance RIP.
