Xj with th a 4cyl and 4.10 gears is a lp or hp front axle?

I think it depends on the year. Should be able to tell by looking at it – it looks exactly like what it sounds like.

XJs from 1988 to 1999 were equipped with high pinion Dana30 front axles.

This picture shows the difference between the low pinion and high pinion housings. It should clear up what everyone means by "just look at it." Low pinion on the left, high on the right. Notice how the pinion yoke is either below or above the center line of the axle.




The gears that are in the axle do not effect the housing.
