If anyone has swapped to a 4BT or know someone who has i would like some info. What it takes from start to finish if possible. I plan on swapping out my 4.0 for a 4BT in the next little bit i have my eye on two rebuildables right now and bidding on one that runs so this is a definite deal.

I will definately do a build thread. I would like to do the 3.9 cummins but have also been looking at the 3.3 cummins as well. My dad is a big VW diesel man and is doing a TDI swap in VW vanagon right now.
We will know what lies bfore us any way as far as all the work related.

i've heard from several people that it's barely worth the time. so much needs to be changed over for an engine that's almost or maybe even over 1000lbs. by the time you find one used, rebuild it, upgrade the turbo, set up a good custom fuel management system, set up motor mounts, bellhousing adapter, change your fuel pump for a diesel pump and many other minor things you'll be in for 10 to 12 grand. for about 180hp and 400 ft. lb or torque.
i think it's a really cool swap, but how efficient is it?
just a question, but have you considered a 4.7 stroker instead? i've heard people make close to 300 hp 350ft. lb. with 4.7 and still get quite decent gas mileage.

I've heard of one guy who swapped a Mercedes OM617 into his XJ, gotta look for the link. Seems like that would be a better option though the Mercedes is a better engine, a way easier swap (besides sourcing adaptors), puts out about the same torque as 4.0 gas and gets like 35mpg.
