Default 35s and 8-9 MPG

in the past couple of months I have put 35" mudders on my heep with stock gearing and Im getting sick of the HORRIBLE mileage (which I realized I was going to get). I've been wanting to put 4.88s in but Ive read that it wont work in the CHRY 8.25 (29 spline) and that 4.56 is the highest ratio that can go in it. true or false?? I found it hard to believe because I have been seeing 4.88 ring and pinions for sale for the 8.25.

I am also curious with what will get me the best mileage for mix of both highway and city driving. lately me and a couple of friends have been going on road trips and im always turned down from driving due to the low MPG and that I can only get up to 55 MPH. and they dont feel like dishing out the $$ for gas (which I understand) but I feel bad that the same two people drive each time in their Monte Carlos (which SUCK!)

and what will allow me to cruise at 75 mph with out the rpms screaming at me like they are now...

If 4.88s are going to be best for me and will not work with the 8.25, I'll find an 8.8. if I had access to a welder for the brackets Id go ahead and do that and be better off but I dont.

I have a buddy with a d35 and 4.88 gears, so I bet you could find them for an 8.25 if you search around... not sure though. I did't think they made them for either axle until my buddy told me about his.

Do some checking around.. Might be better to swap your rear axle for a 8.8, and sell your 8.25 depending on cost of gears..

Look at the setup in my sig. I was getting about 10 mpg city/13-14 hwy. It was driving me nuts. I regret not going w/4:88s. But with all the armor and tire weight, not sure how much better I would've gotten.

I know your wondering about gears but why don't u get a set of cheap tires for the road and keep the mudders for offroad. If u get some 31s it will still be nice but u get better mpg and higher highway speed. Just an idea

The 4.88 weren't available till about a year or so ago for the 8.25. I run 4.56s in mine for now, soon to be 5.13s, and get 15 mpg around town and the speedo is dead on.

well I had 31s before i got the 35s and IMO it just looked doofy with a 4.5" lift and pretty soon i will be moving up to 6.5" so 31s are definately outa the question. thanks though.

Those are the most expensive Yukons I've ever seen. Complete Offroad sells the same set for $150 and you can get package deals for front and rear with install kits for the price of those.
