wait how are gears distributed? 4.88s in the front or rear? like what gears do i need to run up front and back?

i have a dana 30 up front and a 8.25 in rear

you have to run the same gears.. the transfer case will not be happy if you do 4.88 in back and 4.56 in the front. it wont work
unless you plan on never using 4x4 you can just regear the back

front and rear gear ratio NEED TO MATCH! haha dont want to make that mistake

Hey if you had 2wd then you would not have to have same gearing front and back... 2wd XJ ftw. I'm glad I didn't buy a 4wd XJ because then I wouldn't be saving for college, I would blow most of my money on parts lol... Like a deal with the devil. I have never come across a situation where I needed 4wd but have needed the ground clearance. Well I tried climbing the curb one day and I was low on gas, it just spun the back right wheel fml. When I filled up it went right over the same spot.
