Got a limited slip or a locker?

I wouldn't use 4wd either. But I'm not all that great at converting metric to inch tire sizes.

the 235 is about 28" and the 31 is obvious. I am sure you could find a cheap used 31 to have a matching spare.

I think my wife has some 235s, hers are around 29-30 when I measured them. I think it depends on the tire...

If your 235s are 28.8 and a 31 is really 30.5 inches the difference in height between a 235 with good tread and a baldy 31 will not be much.

I run 225s for a spare with my 35s, I don't want the extra weight and I can store it in the stock location.
If I get a flat on the rear though, I have to swap a tire from the front axle for the flat and install the spare on the front. It is a little more work, but not that bad. Of course going this way you get the flat 35 fixed and reinstalled ASAP, and don't drive on the spare for a week before you fix the flat.

To find if it's LSD. Jack up the back so the rear tires are off the ground. Spin one tire and if the other tire spins in the same direction than you have limited slip. If it spins opposite than you have a open diff.

Sent from my mind using the rusty stock leafs off my xj.
