Default 30 Spline

I'm looking to purchase a set of Chromo shafts for my front end as well as a locker. I was planning to do the locker then the shafts. I was wondering if anyone thinks it is worth the initial cash drop to just go ahead and buy them at the same time and get 30 spline shafts?

the only disadvantage I see is not being able to use factory/junkyard shafts as spares

I'd like to hear what other say on this as well.

I've got a few spare shafts, and it's nice to have them. And they were much cheaper compared to a spare 30 spline shaft.

But how big of a tire are you running? Are you doing stuff that would break a shaft?

when you go that big on a D30 you're gonna be blowing up ring gears.

With the 30 spline doesn't that limit the locker selection?

I am running 33's and am pretty easy on the skinny pedal. My wheeling is mostly trails/mud and hillclimbs, not much as far as rocks go around here. I mostly worry about that hidden root in mudholes that will stop a spinning tire dead in it's tracks. Seen sooooo many shafts and u-joints break over that one.

If you personally aren't busting the 27 splines then there's no need to upgrade. And if you do start breaking 27 spline chromos it's time for a bigger axle. I wasn't able to break anything on 33's. 35's started messing stuff up but still no catostrophic breakage

Just check and service frequently. Check ujoints often and axle splines for twisting when you can. Full circle clips in the ujoints will save your *** more often than 30 spline, I'm assuming

No point. Like mentioned, if you start breaking the 27 spline stuff left and right, it's time to step up to a beefier axle. Plus, you'll have to invest in some spares as well. It's easier to find someone with a spare 27 spline on the trail than a 30 spline.

I would love to have RCV's, but $1100 is a bit spendy

I have a super 30 kit and an Eaton e locker up front and I'm running 33's, I haven't had any problems and I like the peace of mind that I get with running those 30 spline shafts.
well worth it in my opinion I get it if I were you.
