2wd Jeepers
i have a 96 XJ that was 4x4 but got T-boned and it snapped my front diff in half and for a cheaper fix, i bought a solid front axle because i rarely used my 4x4 anyway. well now that i go offroad a ton now. i wish i had it back because people make fun of you, blah blah blah that you dont have 4x4 anymore. i said f*** you i can go through more stuff than you can. i have a 2in procomp lift with 30in goodyear wrangler duratracs. i do some serious work in the mud. i beat out a lifted f150 and a stock dodge ram. i went through about half of UWharrie in my jeep and its awesome. i love it i wouldnt trade it for anything else. so dont let anyone tell you a 2wd jeep cant do work in the mud. as long as you know how to drive well in the mud, youre fine!
this is my 2wd xj.. nothin special, and not very rough terrain but still it did just fine..

you can ask the exact same question to anyone with a 4wd who attempts to offroad without engaging the front axle.. And from my experience IT SUCKS on any kind of hill with a incline and loose surface(think gravel/light dirt) you will spin.. Every time.. Was checking out my 4wd today (just fixed it) pulled up a pretty steep incline (steep enough that it slammed my stock hitch into the ground) wouldn't move at all in 2wd.. Would just spin. Put it in 4hi and it pulled right out with NO issues.
The 2wd Jeep cherokees are the original S.U.V. they sort of have a value all there own. The fuel economy is waay better. They don't have front differentials to mess with .No transfer case either .Great for high water on pavement (street flooding). I would think just raise it 2 inches at most and leave it a sharp looking street eater.
