last time we went mudding i only put it in 4x4 to feel like i was cool. i actually didn't need it anywhere

I rarely use it... granted I dont do anything too extreme, but i've done so much in 2wd. Friends think I'm in 4wd when I haven't even touched the T case lever. They're like, thanks god we're in a 4x4... haha! The right tires are a big help. If you like your Jeep, no need to trade it, but if you have to have 4wd, I'd have to advise against a swap too, it's a lot of work. My advise, just enjoy it, and always go out with a friend with recovery gear. Just don't sink too much $$ into it if you are dead set on getting a 4wd, but most of all, don't let idiots like me make decisions for you, it's your Jeep, do what YOU want!

Oops, I'm way late to the game on this one, didn't see how long this thread was... guess it's time for bed. The fumes must have got to me while doing my injector swap today.

I'd love to pick up a 2wd. I'm out in so cal...lots of desert, I think it would be fun to put the same lift I have on my 4wd xj and put it on a 2wd to blast through the desert. Plus a 2wd will get my 4wd trailered to the trail. Save some gas too. I could wheel and xj on tough trails and drive one home too! Hmmm...really starting to think about this now lol...btw your jeep do want you want...it's ok to be a non traditional jeeper, don't listen to some of these knucklheads lol.

I'm not pluggin' the No-Slip, I'm just saying any single traction enhanced diff will probably out-perform 2 open diffs......and the video I posted demonstrates how a 4X2 with a locking diff can have better traction than a 4X4 with 2 open diffs. Most vehicles, including 4X4s, have open diffs.
An autolocker can be installed in a couple of hours, no need to mess with ring/pinion set-up and provides the ultimate in power to opposite wheels, on road or off. 4X2 is lighter, gets a little better mpg, less complicated, blah, blah, blah.

i have a 96 XJ that was 4x4 but got T-boned and it snapped my front diff in half and for a cheaper fix, i bought a solid front axle because i rarely used my 4x4 anyway. well now that i go offroad a ton now. i wish i had it back because people make fun of you, blah blah blah that you dont have 4x4 anymore. i said f*** you i can go through more stuff than you can. i have a 2in procomp lift with 30in goodyear wrangler duratracs. i do some serious work in the mud. i beat out a lifted f150 and a stock dodge ram. i went through about half of UWharrie in my jeep and its awesome. i love it i wouldnt trade it for anything else. so dont let anyone tell you a 2wd jeep cant do work in the mud. as long as you know how to drive well in the mud, youre fine!
