Saw this when I was shopping for a set up. Thought about adding a 1/4" piece of steel overlapping the lateral brackets on the C4x4 set up. That's as far as I got. Got me thinking again now.
No problem. I'm going to be under there anyway to hook up my sway bar so I'll take a look.
It is the same way with a lot of things.
I have spent quite a bit of time sourcing factory options that my Jeep did not come with.
Most are bought used.
I try to do the research to understand as much about the particular project I want to do as possible.
What parts I need to pull this off. What might be the differences between years that while they will
work will throw a monkey wrench into my plans.
Here is an example:
Guy on this forum picked up an overhead console for his '97 and up Jeep.
He did not get the bracket or harness with it.
End of the world? No of course not.
But when I do see just the bracket come up on Ebay do you know that guys are asking $30 to $35 for it.
Just for the freaking bracket.
I just came across a harness on Ebay and told him about it. $50. Which actually seemed reasonable.
Especially since I never see just the harness alone.
My overhead is from a '99 part out that I found on Craigslist way back when. For $200 the guy let me raid the thing.
I took the overhead, overhead headliner, the bracket, the harness, visors, and so much more.
Now I knew from my research that I would have to repin one connector in the footwell area on the harness to get a '99
to work with my '00.
Here is what I did not know.
The lighted visors are different on a '99 compared to an '00. '99 have one wire with an internal ground. '00 are two wire.
Now I did not come across this in my research but I am in the habit of grabbing everything even remotely associated with
the project which was lucky for me.
Cause you know what guys are asking for visors on Ebay? Like minimum $40.
And because I have a Camel interior, which the donor Jeep was, I would be limited to having to find Camel '99 ones only.
And not cause of the color of the fabric but because of the color of the mirror itself.
In a boneyard they would probably charge you $10 for those visors but again I would have to find that one year in that one color.
And that could be challenging.
Almost learned that lesson the hard way. I bought a fairly rare transfer case at one time. It sat in the garage for nearly two years. Come to find out when I went to match it up to the transmission I needed the t/c oem gear that connects them. Guy I bought the t/c from was suppose to be moving to Florida and I had no way to contact him. I couldn't find the gear ANY WHERE. Even contacted an International Scout specialty shop in Arizona(?) who told me it wasn't going to happen. Devine intervention! My son notices an ad in the Valley Trader and recognizes the guys phone number and he's still at the same location as the t/c came from. A 2hr drive later and he tells us he thinks the transmission is up on the hill with some scrap parts. It was. Mostly buried in nearly one foot of frozen muck. Dug it out and there was the gear. Won't get in to how hard it was to get it off the trans but we did.

Wow.
Sad thing is that no matter how much research I do or how much I overthink the project there almost always is something that comes up.
Just to mess with me. LOL.
So you were right. The carriage bolts take the place of the torx ones. But to be honest at least on mine I don't think the use of hex head bolts would have been a problem. I'll will give C4X4 credit for thinking out of the box though.

Could have sworn I saw something somewhere about it a long time ago.
But could not find it. Closest to it I could find was this:
I said "at least on mine "just to cover my butt. lol But my bar is no where near that close to the bolt heads on either side. I'll go out on a limb a say that even the carriage bolts on mine wouldn't clear his bar. Even if his bar is a 28mm one (mine is 26) I can't see it making a difference. I also don't think the thickness of his brackets compared to the C4X4 ones is enough to cause that. Yours anywhere near close?
So I did go and look at it. And the head on that torx is pretty big.
So the only way I could figure out how to get a somewhat accurate measurement was with my feeler gauge.
And I did it from the bottom trying to be as straight up as possible.
So all the blades totaled up a little under an 1/8". And my sway bar appears to be 26mm according to my HF caliper.
But you have to realize that torx head is an M14 bolt. At least that is what my '00 parts catalog says.
BOLT, Button Head Torx, M14 x 2.0x 80
I have figure the head on regular M14 bolt would be pretty big.
I think I figured out the bolt head clearance issue in that link you posted. He not only doesn't he have a lift on it yet that Smitty bumper and winch lower the front even more. Having said that I looked at mine again and even with the 2" lift at some point of compression I don't believe a regular bolt head would clear the bar. Good on C4X4 again. And duh on me.
When looking for a front end recovery system I looked for a kit that mounted like the OEM,C4X4,etc. ones BUT I wanted a set up with D-rings. The hooks with the strap keepers have worked fine but ………………………...
