Default 2 seater 4 door XJs

What's your opinion? I've always loved 4 doors, just because, all my XJs have been. I like the idea of being able to seat 5 (4.5 in reality). But on road it's mostly gonna be me driving, but offroad I'm usually with a group, but rarely have more then 1 passenger.

As much as I want to try to keep it somewhat recognizable as a Jeep, it is rhino lined with 4 point harnesses at this point, and I'm thinking about the added cargo room if I pull the rear seats out and toss em. I don't know, just a thought. Whats yours?

Pull 'em out! I rarely have the need for more than one passenger, so I took mine out. Plus, this is the first 4 door I've ever owned and I gotta say I'm just not a fan of back seats. You can't beat the amount of cargo room, and I think it looks better. Sounds like you don't use or need it, so I say do it.

i double the taking them out idea!!
i have a 2door and i keep my rear seat folded down always and i hardly ever use it but the extra storage space is well taking up by a 15 inch sub and a tool box and welding stuff its like a whole truck bed thats covered and lockable

If you do it, you should build a lockable dual cargo box to go in the rear footwells so that you have low storage, but still have a completely flat back area. Or, depending on how you did it, you might be able to get storage there, and still be able to put a flat Wrangler backseat over the top of it when you need extra seating.

I considered it myself, but my first son just arrived and now I need a place for a carseat.

Not an option for me. My three year old loves the jeep and asks to go in the "woooods" every day. That's the one reason I still own the xj. I know its herasy but I would have bought a cj years ago if not for my kids. That said I do truly enjoy my xj, and every time I wheel it I'm impressed by what it can do.

I have seen one where the rear seat was removed and the guy built a plywood enclosure/platform that came out level with the rear cargo floor almost up to the front seats and the top flipped forward to hide his hilift jack and some other items.
It was carpeted with out door carpet and it really looked and filled the area nicely.
His reason for doing it was for camping in the back of it.

Have you ever seen the flat wrangler seat installed as A third row?

Just take out the base cushion of the back seat (takes 30 sec to remove), keep it in the garage and fold down the back of it. If you ever need to carry 3+ people, put it back in. I thought about it to save on weight, but it weighs all of 5 lbs so it would save more weight if you just removed the manual from the glove box.
