I own one finally 1996 beautiful condition. Curious on how many models were made? or if they are a rare breed. I looked for a full year before finding one with two owners the last one having it for 9 years.

They're out there I looked at a few 5 speeds myself when I bought my xj. Ultimately the 5 speeds were poorly maintained or were in bad shape compared to the AW. I settled for a clean auto. I figure one day I'll come across a 5 speed parts jeep and do the swap.

 

That number is all xj's. Finding the numbers on models with certain options is harder. I've heard rumors that about 5-10% of xj's were 2 door 5 speed.

 

I didn't save the link but I read approx 15% of all production were 2 door.
Far less are 2 door and 5 speed.

I had two but parted one out. The extra weight on the hinges is the Achilles heel and part of the reason I parted one out.

Most 2 door 5 speeds i see around me are 2wd.

 

I wanted an ax15 xj, as well. 2 door was a must. after reading about the transmissions I came to the conclusion that an aw4 would be less problematic and last longer. with that being said, when my aw4 dies I will do an ax15 swap.
