I think he is saying pause a little at the sides and then move a little more quickly across the gap of the bevel.

Open root (6010 1/8 filler?)? Thickness of material (3/8 mild steel)?
Try a 3/16 landing and root opening. 110 amps or so. Don't whip much at all like a 1/32 to a 1/16, watch the molten puddle from the top fuse to the back edge as you go. Takes time to get it down.

I did that once, it was fun and easy

 

I dont know about you but I can thing of about a million other materials that I would much rather weld on than cast anything!!!! LOL

My problem now is keeping my hands steady. The nerve damage is getting worse. But as long as it holds, it ain't gotta be pretty.
