If you do get flash burn with a AD hood, there is more than likely a crack somewhere in the glass. The only light the hood is letting in is in the visible spectrum. (I honestly can't speak for the cheaper HF hoods however)

I have a nice Jackson that's a few years old. not even sure which model. I'll have the guy at the local welding supply give it a good once over, but I think if there was a crack in the glass I would get flash burn all the time, not just in over head situations no?
I'm still going to go with a standard hood.

Another reason why I love my miller elite. It has 4 sensors on each corner. I've yet to be in a situation where it hasn't worked. The higher end speedglas' have the same configuration as well.

this is the one i use. cheap enough, comes in at around 200 bux but got it free as a promotion when i bought my lincoln 140c.

before that i had the orange hobart hood. it too was just over 200 but not as nice as the lincoln hood.

Anyone use a thermal arc 3-in-1 or a firepower 3-in-1? Just picked one up, and I absolutely love it! Haven't used the tig or stick yet but as a mig welder it is pretty nice. Broke it in doing some exhaust work and a section of floor panel. Now I have to find some sort of project to make! Thinking about pulling the rear bench and turning the under seat storage into something a bit bigger with a tire mount on top for the spare...
