Default Time for an OBA setup

So while attending an estate auction yesterday (mainly for tools) i noticed among a pile of random garage leftovers to be sold.......
A small grade air compressor... like one used for a semi truck or air bag suspension..... also an air tank with a few port options also seeming to be ideal for some type of air bag suspension or other...
and now for some pics

Time for an OBA setup-102_1178.jpg
$25.....

Time for an OBA setup-102_1179.jpg
$20 came with the air regulator attached... !BONUS!

Time for an OBA setup-102_1180.jpg
and then snagged a monster ammo can for $15

so the plan is to setup the compressor inside the ammo can (seal able and lockable... so its protected from thievery and weather conditions)

bolt the ammo can to the truck bed in my comanche... then mount the air tank inside my truck box and then use one of those pre coiled air lines for air line

will deff. get more pics as this progresses. gonna grab some NPT stuffage from my work drawer and get this sucker moving

looks like a cool project, looking forward to see it all fit in the ammo can.

you wouldnt get airflow in the ammo box and the compressor would over heat

thats true. maybe drill some holes in it or add a little electric fan to the box.

ok ok there are smaller details i guess i shouldn't have left out but everything has been taken into consideration and it will work just fine... but sorry the air compressor is the only thing fitting inside the ammo can... the air tank will be mounted in my truck tool box.... you'll all understand once this gets under way

btw this is close to scale for how everything sits inside both containers

i'll use a small maybe 3"x3"-ish vent for air circulation into the box... i'll use an air pressure switch to regulate the max amount of air that gets pumped into the tank and when its gets low, when it will turn back on. (the compressor will also be hooked up to a switch in the cab so if i don't want it running, it wont.) the air tank has 6 ports.... the bottom port with the RED dot is the pop off valve... Just in case too much pressure builds up

the other ports will be used for:
-Air line
-train horn (maybe)
-tank pressure gauge
-2nd pressure gauge for in cab (maybe)

along with vents in the ammo can you might want to add a small electric fan like ones used in computers to help push out the hot air
you might also consider adding vents to the opposite side of the can so itll have cooler air being sucked in and the hot air pushed out
that way you should have enough air flow for the compressor to stay cool and function properly

This is what I would worry about. Compressor getting hot!

I've actually changed my plans for it and now the entire setup will be in my bed box, i'll use the ammo can for other storage uses.

I did also pickup my pressure switch and drain plug..... just waiting to mount the box in the bed and also fabbing a mount for the tank and compressor.. will throw some pics tomorrow

the "cradle" for the tank
Time for an OBA setup-image11082011182922.jpg
checking measurements for the compressor mount

tacked together...
Time for an OBA setup-image11082011205026.jpg
mostly finish welded, and set it up on my workbench to test out the shutoff switch.... gotta add a little more metal and then gotta make the mounting bracket to put it in the box.... should have some more progress to speak of soon!
