suck down winch
I would like to do a suck down winch on the front but was wondering if anybody had some examples of separate winch locations and or cable routing to the axle using their main front winch.
The only example I've seen so far in person bound up the drag link pretty bad.

if you mount your winch behind the reinforcement crossbeam behind your bumper(with reinforcement btw.. its sheet metal so dont assume it'll hold more than your wifes purse) it tends to give very good angle.
I seem to remember reading a build thread of a guy who had a small winch under there and he was saying he was surprised more people hadn't done it because it sucked it down perfectly and had great line.

Thanks
Thanks for the reply. I'd rather use the original winch if possible but at the same time I also want to be able to use it regularly for normal winching too.
So far I was thinking of fabbing up a crossmember similar in location to the steering box brace with a pulley in the center. I guess I'd also have to put another pulley in front & below the rollers on the front of the winch too.
Anyway just a thought so far.

A suck down winch is a very useful tool once you figure out how to use it. It took me a while with my rear suck down to know when and where to use it.. For a front application, a behind the bumper mounted winch can be used and with little clearance issues be used for front suck down. I'll show pics of mine in a few days since I,m in the process of doing so. I also have about a 4 inch stretch in WB so the back of the winch is almost on top of the axle.

This thread would be better suited in the Cherokee Chat section of the forum.
also, you'd probably have much better luck searching on Pirate4x4. Most guys over here aren't into hardcore stuff.
its a winch that is used to "suck" the axle towards the body and prevent the suspension from unloading on steep hill climbs or decents(mostly used on the front from my experience.

Thanks jrhxj1 I'm looking forward to your pics.
Sorry for not posting this in the correct section, it seemed to me that it was a technical discussion that would involve fabrication. If a moderator wants to move the thread it wouldn't bother me at all, feel free. I'm new to this forum, just trying to feel the place out a bit.
Thanks again for the help

Also
As far as the rear is concerned, I've got a wide open spot to mount a small secondary winch behind the gas tank skid directly over the axle, just haven't gotten around to it, but it's definitely on my to do list. I feel like the front one will help me more on a regular basis. jrhxj1 like you said though, once I have it and learn when to use it, I imagine that I'll really realize what I've been missing.

I use my rear suck down mainly on hill climbs when there's bouncing involved. A front suckdown will help the same way plus with the advantage of being an "on command" suspension limiter in off camber situations. I have seen a friend of mine actually shear the trac bar mount off of his front Dana 60 and had to use his front suck down to keep the front axle from ripping completely out on the way back to camp.
