Well I am not sure if the fabrication area is where this needs to be, but I am giving it a try anyway.
I decided I wanted more sound in the XJ. I decided to build a box like the one I saw a guy selling somewhere.
Here are a few pics of my project.
I forgot to take pics of the build process...sorry

Its a RE 12" sub. I used 3/4 Mdf. I like the finished product.

Let me know what you think.

Nice job. I bought the one from the guy selling them on the forum and really like the way it souonds. Yours appears to be a little larger and the 12" will should hit a little harder.

A 12" will go lower and shake things more, but a 10" will hit harder.

Box looks good, how do you like it? What amp/sub?

It looks good and clean, I like it, but I think it would have been cool if you had some of that unused space on the left of the sub for storage or have a door of some sort to put small stuff in so all that isnt just wasted space.

I think the theory behind the size of the box is air space, if you give your sub less air space than it's required it won't hit as hard. And well let's face it a single sub in a ported box doesn't sound as good as it could in a sealed box.

Are u guys putting fiberfill (also called polyfill) in your sub boxes? I professionally installed car audio and made custom sub boxes for about 4 years so I have a lot of experience with this stuff

The easy way is to get a cheap pillow and cut It open and use the material inside. It does a couple things. It will smooth out the sound as it gives the air/pressure a buffer. It also can be used in a sealed box to trick the sub into thinking its in a bigger box than it really is(cause it takes longer for the air to pass thru it to the back of he box and back . Only fill it bout 1/4 to half way cause you still need the air inside to cool down the sub. Google it and you'll find it's been used for years.

True story! I have done this before for fitting subs in a smaller vehicle. Takes a little math though.
