so i made it into sears today.
and lemme start off by saying ive had some pretty bad experiences there
but today luckily was not one of them

went in with my grinder and told them it siezed up making a cut he pulled up my receipt,
didn't even bother confirming the validity of my complaint,
and less then 10 min later walked out with a brand new angle grinder.
granted it was a " craftsman professional " model and i had only had it for 6 months or so.
still seemed like i got lucky walking out with a brand new one
soo now that thats outa the way,
plan on grinding the rest of the shackle tops off tmrw.
then i gotta cut out new ones on monday and drill holes monday maybe tuesday..
then tack the pieces up and mount it to the frame and tack it the rest of the way, lay some beads.
paint probly wednesday and should, if all goes well, be ready to ship out by next friday.
after that set of 3 is all finished then i will go get some nice big long strips planning on enough to make 5 sets.
and seeing how that goes as far as selling. one set will be for me and 7 sets for sale, again if all goes as planned
so far seems like maybe 4-5 pending sales/interest
and one trooper Thexjfiles who has already paid for a set and plans on holding out for the next batch.

thought about this, then realized i just removed most of that metal to bolt through with the help of a dodge ram, i think its time to retire the rusty ol girl.
Have you considered having the parts laser cut and breaking them? Drilling that many holes and welding the end on is a waste and of time if you are trying to "produce" them

but im 19 and i dont have access to a 100,000$ dollar shop..

maybe someday.
but after messing up on the first 3 i got it down now.
and while i dont have access to every tool out there ( laser cutters water cutters brake presses hydrualic presses/punches ) and all that fun stuff, at least im still out there puttin in time so one day i can afford my own shop.
so how bout dont be such a negative nancy and get off my thread if your just gonna insult me and say " oh i could make that in 45 min.. "

ya im sure i could make em in 30 min or less if i had a punch and a laser cutter, but seeing as im only making like 50$-60$ a set, i got quite a few sets to sell before i can afford to go out and drop that kind of money..

but when im only making a profit of 50$-60$ a set
and laser cutting would probly cost me 20-30$ per set at least to subsidize out.
im gonna say thats a bad idea at the point.
( if im wrong on price guessing point it out.. )
and to be honest, running a shear and a drill press are two things that i think a caveman could do ( very easy ).. soo i dont see any reason why i would need to change my method, esp at this point where im only making 10 sets.
after these 10 sell maybe i will look into making 20 at time and seeing how much laser cutting would cost.. but i cant afford to lose anymore than like 25% of my profit. other wise its not worth it.
Its seems like you are looking at it in pure dollar factor. You can have those parts laser cut and broke for probably the price you were thinking. But, at that point you could make a set in 10 mins...... I'm a fabricator for a living so I look at it like this, I make about $25 an hour to make **** with metal. If it takes me a hour to make something, that part costs me $25 plus materials, and wear and tear on equipment.

If I was to bid this job, I would expect one of my apprentices to be able to make 25-30 a day, that's layout, shear, punch holes, jig em up and weld them out!
This is a very rudimentary part and really shouldn't take that long to make!
That being said if I was to make this in my garage at home it would take 2 or perhaps 3 times as long to make, it all depends on the tools you have available!

You have years of experience and access to more tools and your faster at making things then me... Is that what you want to hear...
I'll mention again I'm 19 and not rich... I have a 100$ drill press and I'm lucky to have my mig welder and access to a shear at school.
I work with what I have and I'm making money at it while getting experience. So I'd say I'm doin pretty good..
You can keep insulting me if you want cuz I know it'll make you feel better!

If anyone's interested in getting on the list for when there ready just lemme know
I will give an apology to anyone waiting for these as I can't seem to make them as fast as some people. But I am an honest guy and when these are ready they will be solid.

It's not meant to be insulting just simply being honest about what is possible with the right tools. If you look at my post I clearly put the difference in time working with typical garage tools vs. a fab shop. That's why I was recommending that you try and figure out a way to gain some shop access. If you can cut your fab time in half you would double you $/hr.

Why does everyone take comments as an insult? Not everyone is out to be a dick. I dont read them as an insult, just offering advice, trying to save you time and money. Its great that you are willing to fab up your own parts, and even some to sell, most guys will never get that far. But if people are willing to calm down and listen there is good advice there. You might even be able to get a fab shop to make the parts for you, weld them yourself and still make money, just a little less. I still applaud you for gettin after it!
