Default Roof rack ?

Going to build a roof rack. All 3/4in. 16ga. square tubing. But was wondering if the ones with the angled solid steel fronts got better or worse MPGs then one with just a couple of vertical tubes in the front Any thoughts on this?

Not sure about quiter. mine has a vertical front and doesn't make any noise. maybe saw my gas mileage drop 1 mpg.

If you could make a pretty decent roof rack using tube steels then much better because you won't worry about decreased MPG... Its just a matter of how you'll gonna make it and the design that would work well...

Round is a little more aerodymaic the square tubing. but with the sharper angles of the cherokee I'm going to build the rack, sliders and bumpers out of square tubing.

Never said it would be hard to fab. Just looking for info on MPGs between the two.

no no, the wind deflector shouldnt be too hard. but since I went off topic, I will bring it back (I tend to think things and forget to type them)

With the top part set back a few inches, and a diflector you will get better gas mileage.....but we arent talking about MAJOR mpg differences here.

Personaly I like the square tubing idea, I think it blends with the Xjs squared off looks.

Can't wait to see what you come up with.
