Good call, I use use carb clean every now and again when a wire brush alone won't clean the surface good enough. I think I'll be a little more careful when I weld now and keep the brake clean out of the equation. I wonder if there's any carb or brake clean without tetrachloroethylene. Thanks for the info.

i myself have had some close calls with chemical reactions during welding but nothing this sevure yet and i am glad i saw this article thanks for posting this up for all of us to read on hear
i hope i can say this for all if not alot of us a big apreciation

R 134 freon is nasty stuf to when exsposed to open flame..

Hey guys, rule of thumb. If you are going to cut or weld, just stay away from cleaners and clean mechanically with sanding discs or wire brush. If it is liquid and not water, it will do something to you you don't like. Anything that is a hydrocarbon will burn and if it has chlorine or fluorine in it, it will be poisonous.

wire brursh if that dosent work break out the grinder with a flap wheel. or as i forgot to do while welding my skibikes dont clean em, just get a lil bit of metal showing and weld away.. not the smartest idea big head migrains

another one to watch out for is aluminium. The gasses released from welding it are not the happiest of things to breathe

I've meet a another wheeler that passed out under his jeep from some gas cause by a reaction while welding. Luckly the garage door was open to vent it out. I haven't seen him for a bit to see if he's had any other symptoms. Thanks for post it.

Personally have not had the chance to weld.

this is a good thing to read because i had this happen to me welding a rear end and i started to throw up and it was not pleasent

clean paint off too. i have passed out before and almost burned to death cuz the trigger was held on and wire kept burning. keep these gases out of your eyes too it does not feel good at all. i where a resperator when i weld for lengths of time now too.
