Quote: Hey guys this is a build thread not a discussion thread. If you would like to discuss this subject any further please make a thread in the discussion forums. I would hate to see this thread get closed. The OP was nice enough to show and discuss his work into detail for us, so lets keep this opened for his sake!

Thread is 3 years old already. If it was going to be closed I would think it would have been done already with everyone else posting their vents up 2 years ago. Name of the thread is hood vent. We're encouraged to use the search engine, the words Hood and Vent don't get any more precise and will lead you to this thread.

Now even though it's been a while, I again thank the OP for his thread and write up as we've done this mod on my FIL's Jeep as well. We even copied his XJ color. haha!!!

As long as this thread is still going, I thought these could work as hood vents as long as I got a 3" bi-metal hole saw. $12.49 for six. It could be fun to line up 3 on each side of the center of the hood.

Or break down and buy a 4" bi-metal hole saw. $13.49 for six

^ I saw a few pictures of a Jeep that had round ones similar to that but they didn't have the louvered part on them. Looked like a bunch of cup holders. LOL!! Just make sure the louvers stay on. haha!!

I didn't go through all the posts, but there are some really nice ones. I don't know if anyone suggested this, but I used the 2 black Grill inserts from my Grand daughte'rs 2001 wrecked Pontiac Grand Am. You don't need trim around the edges. It's built with a lip around the outside. But it is a narrow one, so be careful when you are cutting the hood.

They were $10 for 6 at Lowes. I got the 4" ones, they are significantly bigger than the 3" ones. Then I got $18 in a 4" bi-metal hole saw lol

Painted them black and will test fit in a piece of plywood before drilling into the hood. Maybe I'll get around to it this weekend.

Haha, the blade cost more than the mod. Gotta love it. Post pics when you're done!

Installed my round aluminum 4" louvered soffit vents. Painted them black. They fit tight, but I put a little RTV on the underside of the hood to make sure they stayed in. They seem to go well with the round spot lights and the tube bumper. Maybe I'll call it a theme.

Drove into work in a light rain this morning. Steam only came off the front of the hood at the stoplights, not in the middle of the hood anymore, so some of the heat is escaping. Funny.
