Well it's not 100% done yet, but I'm going to have straps with an isolating pad between the strap and the rail made of this truck bed cover pad stuff I got at the hardware store. Then just have a bolt on either side of the strap. That was just a mock-up so I could weld on the front mounting bits. I need just a bit more metal to finish the last two straps, then prep and paint it before I can put the isolating pads on.

I'm not positive but they look like the JCR gutter mounts. I have the same setup on mine. Works very well.

If you have stock roof bars then just U-bolt it to those. That's what I did. It's better than spending 50 bucks on the gutter mounts. I spent about 7 bucks at Home Depot.

Actually, it's not better. Gutter mounts will carry more weight then the stock rack.

I think the weak point of the stock rack would be the cross-bars.

I have a full size spare, and hi-lift up top. That thing isn't going anywhere. I haven't had any problems with it shifting/moving.

I was inspired yesterday. Watching this post i went and spend 170 in steel. Went a little thicker walled also bought some 1/2 inch for other projects. Real simple after 2 hours i had the base all done. just need to work on the upper and pointing tabs. Might just order them.

Mocked up for a couple days of test driving. Obviously needs to be painted, and I still need to find somewhere to get some mesh.

the one i just made i took off the stock luggage bars. welded 1 1/2 inch spacers to the bottom of the rack bought longer bolts and used the metel tabs inside the track to mount mine. if i wanted to i could move mine back and forth a little bit each way
