$200 is rediculous for spi. In my neck of the woods they're considered cheapos. My mitutoyo digitals are usually within a couple tenths and i paid like $150 for them.

You're calling him names because he's telling you to do the smart thing? You can lift a Cherokee 3" easily with a stock trac-bar. More than that and you're going to have to spend some money. Quit doing stuff half-*ssed before you die.

Basically the same concept here. This is what happens when a tracbar breaks going down the road...

Mitutoyo calipers are nice if you can keep the battery cover from falling off.

I just use my 15 year old analog calipers.

Spi makes different grades of tooling. Digital sucks to me. And theres no way any set of calipers is that accurate, thats why the make mics. Spi has 80 dollar crap calipers and so does Mitutoyo. The Brown and Sharpes were the nicest ive ever used, but I paid like 275 for them.

If our foreman saw you measure something that was closer than +\- .oo5 with calipers you would be packing your tools.

Never seen them have that problem.

Maybe you guys should learn how to read analogs and that wouldn't happen! Lol. Jk. The only guys at my work that have the digimatics are the dummies.

Okay “bub”, if you want Darwin to take care of you please continue to do DUMB stuff like this. It is not safe at all. I’m running 4.5” on a stock track bar. You know how I did it? Research and not being a stubborn moron when somebody tries to give me advice. Keep that piece off the road until you build it correctly or return it to stock. Why did you need a lift? Is having the couple extra inches worth somebody else’s life? Grow up, be a man and admit you *****d up.

I agree entirely. We had guys running machines that they didn't need to be. They'd spend all day trying to hold a +/-.001" tolerance with a set of calipers.

Calipers are for rounding to the closest half an inch.

Gah, I'm starting to miss machining... :\

How did we start talking about calipers, anyways?

Only way to make them move that much is to put way too much pressure on them.

I have dial calipers and mics but i do mainly metric parts and id rather not have to convert from standard all day.
