So I was kinda bored waiting on my shock mounts to arrive and decided my Ford 9 inch rear axle needed a little more protection on its bottom. I decided I would add a 1/8" metal plate to the bottom of my axle to give it some more protection from the rocks with out losing any ground clearance.

I read that if youre going to use a shaved 9 inch hounsing, it should only be driven as your dedicated trail rig. Currie says somewhere on there site that youll burn up your third member using it as a daily driver/weekend warrior. It just doesnt oil as good once its been shaved.
Thats just what Ive read and heard cause I was gonna do it to mine but found the info about it not performing as well on the streets once its been shaved.

while adding some "tin foil" (lol jk) to your 9" have you checked out Blue Torch Fabs Guardsman???? they're pretty slick and well worth the cash

I will look into this, but it doesnt seem possible for it to burn the bearings up.. you still have oil in there.
Like I said.. I have an "spare" housing that I plan on shaving and trussing back and top and doing 4 link mounts on.

X2 not saying its impossible as any thing can be possible. but seems like there is still going to be plenty of erl in that there housing.
Thats what I was thinking.. and I have yet to find on any other forums where I know they shave their housing, them saying anything about not haing enough oil.
I figure I can gain... almost 1.25" on the bottom. I am also toying with the Idea of making my axle a full floater... still doing a lil research on it.
