D30 Truss ideas, advice?
I recently posted a reply which spared my interest on D30 truss'es.
I'm running 31's, and might jump to 32's or 33's and will never go bugger but I figure since I'm building my axle I may as well truss it while its out.
I have Currie mini skids that are getting burned it & I plan to box/plate the upper control arm mount & gusset the C's. All simple stuff & easy enough to do while the axle is out..I was also thinking of adding a simple truss.
Maybe something like this..which is just a simple bar from the diff to the outter C.
Or possibly just plating it like this Rubi 44.
I guess what I'm looking for is which is better.stronger? I won't be going crazy with this axle so something simple will work just fine. I want to make it stronger but keep it light weight..
:ike I said 31's, 33's at biggest so nothing serious..figured I upgrade while I had the chance versus regretting not doing it later..

Thats nice but its alittle more involved than I want. I just want something thats cheap & easy to do. I just figured I could toss on a simple truss for the minor stuff I do and be done..I'm looking for something simple..and perferably whats stronger between the tube vs plate style turss.

The plate is stronger than the tube idea. With the tube your still leaving a lot of axle tube in supported. Either way if you only plan on running 33"s its kinda overkill IMHO

I wish I was rich enough for that. I'm just a broke college kid.

I have seen them all over I forget were. Rough Stuff, Ballistic Fab, T&T, Some were and I remember one was only $175. Another option is just buying a chunk of 2X6 and cutting it to go from diff to upper mount and then a little chunk from upper to inner C. Stronger then what you were looking at and cheap.

That is similar to what I was talking about with the 2X6. The reason I said 2X6 is you can cut the steel and sink it down on to the axle on the half way point. But how he did it is plenty strong. You will have to try really hard to bend it.

Heres a truss I did on my old axle. Took 1.75 DOM with .170 wall and notched it to fit the diff. Then welded it to the pass upper link. Stick some 1/8" plate inbetween the DOM and the axle itself. Braced the front of the pass upper mount on the front, then braced the mount to me trac bar mount. It was a super stout truss and served me well. And only cost like $15 to make.
Hope that helps ya man

Should i do 1/8, 3/16 or 1/4" plate?
It may be overkill, but why not do it while I have the chance? Its easier to knock out now vs later.

I'd be buying whatever the plate is, whatever thickness I get is also what I'll be gusseting the outter C's and the control arm mount with. Incase that matters.
And should I be ok with 1.5 .120wall or should I go bigger or thicker?
