Default custom shift levers

Before I begin I want to see if anyone has done this. The target is my 93 ZJ.

I find my 4WD lever to be annoying as it is often difficult to move. A tad more leverage is exactly what it needs and the stock shifter leve is boring.

I want to remove both and replace each with a straight black "pipe" shifter. Basically a length og black steel pipe drilled and bolted in place with rubber grips on the end. My main question is, can I just do exactly that? I don't want to have to push a button or anything like the stock shifter. With both 4WD and PRND etc I want to just grab the lever, pull, and be done.

you'll have to remove the push button lock out of the lower part of the stock trans shifter to move it freely. but personally i think it would bounce around on trails and i would want to make sure park locks. no run-a-way jeeps for me. but to each their own.

Its pretty easy to tell when a gear is engaged but if someone has a simple idea to add a release to the new lever I'm all ears

it would be cool if the handle was a grenade and the lever you had to push to shift. would that be sick or what?

I have this grenade ****, but it is for manual only. The lever can move, but it would take a small machine shop to make it work as an automatic ****.

Then there's this type, but I don't own one;

A buddy of mine had a large open/box end wrench as his shifter. If you wanted a t-shift handle you could then bolt two sockets through the box end of the wrench.
