XJGirl... You could make a slim box that would attach to the back of the rear seat. Depending on what you are wanting to put in it, it may only need to be 4" deep. You could make it as wide as you need (all the way across the back seat.. or only half). At only 4" it would not take up too much rear cargo room and would be accessible from the back seat by the rear passengers even with cargo. If you get creative with the doors to the box you could even make it accessible with the rear seat down. Also if you made the bottom of the box angled you could still slide stuff in from the rear.

Thanks guys, lots of awesome storage setups! Unfortunately, I think the cargo box may take up too much room, so I'm going to work with building something along the side for now....will keep you all posted!

If you moved the spare to a swing-out bumper location (or mounted it on the roof, but then it'd spoil the lines of those nice high-mounted lights), then you could utilize the space where the spare is mounted. It comes complete with a bracket to hold the box up that would make it removeable if you had to move something that just wouldn't fit... though for those occasions you can just grab a trailer...

I made a wooden box that mounts to the spare tire tab on the driverside rear. The door slides out the back and allows access to my 1st aid pack, winch controls, tow straps, tape, etc. I have a fleece sleeping bag and a mini air compressor bungeed down to the top. The top sits level with the bottom of the side window. Unfortunately I'm replying to this thread on my phone so the pics I have are currently only on jeepforum.com. Same user name there. Good luck tho, what took the longest is getting the back of the shelf cut to fit around the wheel hump and fuel fill.

That's almost exactly what I was talking about...

If you're not a **Paid** subscriber, the advanced search is disabled; however, this worked for me in a google search box: Calvin9r storage site:www.jeepforum.com. And I found your solution at:

http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f22/h...ml#post8533873

THEN, from the top of that box can come a shelf to the front for more stuff:
Side view:

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx <--shelf
x x xx <-- attached at front somehow (?)
x z x
x ...x <-- box like Calvin's with z being tab for spare

Top view:
..x x <-- front
..x x
..x x
..x x
..x x
xx x
xx x
xx x <-- back

I've been thinking about this stuff myself trying to figure out how to get more stuff inside, but I am still at the head-scratching point and throwing out thoughts. THANKS, Calvin9r for the hint where to find your photos of the box you made. XJGirl23: your thread, didn't mean to hijack... Back to you.
