I know its an post, but its a relevant topic.
The rules for the fab section just recently changed, thus why its been here so long. If you read the OP, its's not talking about fabricating anything its asking for pictures of how people have mounted CB antenna's. That solidly qualifies as a chat topic. It probably hasn't been moved because I'm sure that the mods for this section are swamped with trying to keep up with all the misplaced threads. I'm not bashing anyone, I'm giving a friendly reminder and trying to give the mods a hand with cleaning up the fab section of the forum

No offense, man, but you're pretty dense. Look at the context... a guy asks how people are mounting their antennas in the fab forum, don't you think it's reasonable to think he's looking for pictures of people's FABED mounts? If I want ideas for how to make my mount and where to put it, this would be the forum I would go to for answers. If you read the responses, most are of mounts people have made aka fabricated.

I think I PM to an admin explaining your point and letting them decide would have sufficed here in the first place. It's not like the contributors are going to read your post and move the thread. Check your PM inbox too.
Back to the original question... I'm sure many of you guys with CBs park in garages. Has anyone come up with any ideas for fabricating a folding permanent antenna? Then you can fold it down when it's not needed but not have to store it inside the jeep like a magnetic antenna (and I would imagine it would still work, though range would probably be reduced.) I'm going to be picking up a CB eventually, but I park in my garage and it's a pretty low garage door so I don't have the room for a whip to be sticking up much more than a foot above the roof. Like previously mentioned I don't want to have to remember to remove the antenna before parking for the night.

I use a magnet mount on the roof and zip tie it to the center rail of my roof rack to hold it in place. I have smacked it with some pretty big branches and it still holds tight.
Since i only use the CB when I am I wheeling, I take it off when I get home and put the XJ back in DD mode. I also wired a cig lighter plug on the back of the CB so I can pull it also when I am not using it.
works awesome

To you guys that have the antennas rigidly mounted to your roof, do you wheel in forested areas, or more open areas? The areas I'm used to in MI would destroy those antennas with the low branches and such. I like some of the creative designs, just wondering how you get through trees.

Currently I run a 102" stainless steel whip on a ball mount on passenger side and have great reception with it. 92 xj
On my other rig I've got a 95" fiberglass whip on a hood mount and it's alright. 91 xj
There's is tons of low trees and other things to smack with my antenna and I haven't had any problems. I've had a couple close calls of the antenna flexing and hitting my arm on the window.

Mine get smacked by branches all the time and is usually fine. on occasion it gets knocked down, and I just put it back up.
Once were were on a buddies property and it was so dense that I just took it off and put it inside. still worked
