Has anyone boxed in the control arms, especially the lower control arms?

We used to do it to our mustang arms and it worked good so i dont see why it wouldnt work for our xj's.

If you're talking about the stock ones be careful they are basically sheet metal and welding may actually weaken them.

Would probably be easier to pick up some WJ control arms at a junkyard.

Would'nt that limit flex? I also did it on the lower rear ones on my Chevelle to improve the handeling.

I boxed the rear control arms and the panhard bar on the rear of my 97 Formula. that is what made me ask about the front lower control arms.

How are the "WJ control arms" different from the XJ?

The WJ CA's are "boxed" in, and have better bushings than the XJ. Minor mod to fit bushings but worth it. I got a pair WJ LCA's already modded for 50$.

WJ control arms also have a slight curve that allows for more tire clearance when steering. http://jeep-xj.info/HowtoWJcontrolarms.htm

When I had DB's on my MJ I had boxed the lowers after twisting one up bad. I usede 3/16 plate and stitched welded them on. I also did the uppers while I was at it. Worked great.. never had another LCA failure

I cut my stock lowers in half and lengthened them. 1x1 square stock fits perfectly inside the arms and if you double stack it it comes outperfectly flush with the bottom arm

Thanks for this, it was very helpful. I just checked the local Pic-n-pull and they have two WJs there.
