Default back portion of bench seat fab...

so my entire interior floor is rhino lined and I love it. but when I put my back seat down like it is alot of the time there is this random patch of carpet that my dog gets all muddy ( the back of the bench seat). so im wondering if I could rip off that carpet upholstery. I can feel metal rails on the inside. now here is what I was thinking, make a back to the seat out of heavy guage plastic or wood and screw it on the back. are there any voids on the inside of the seat back cuz how cool would it be to make that backing and have little compartment doors that I could keep thngs in there. but the only thing I can see going wrong would be that wood pannel would stick up an inch or two when the seat is down... I dont know, what do you think? ever heard of anything like this? or pix of gutted seat frames?

Haven't got around to spraying the floors on my cherokee yet, but I planned to get a piece of sheet steel to replace the carpet. Trim to size, spray on liner outside of cherokee and rivet to back of seat.

If recently disassembled the rear seat out of my 89 because it was going in the trash anyway. I just wanted to see how it was done and how the frame was built. The seat back is basically a pressed sheet metal pan with a tubular outer frame. It was a pain gettin the seat cover off. Sorry but I did not take any pics like I normally do when I tear somrthing apart.

I think a piece of diamond plating would look cool..and you could just go right on top of the fabric just so the seat stays together..

hey when i tore out my carpeting in the back i placed a 1/4 inch sheet of wood down and then berber tiles over that. the problem i now face is that what i did was to thick, but not to the point of the seat not working. And know i was thinking of doing something like that. my cherokee is a 95 country, i notice it seemed like a figure 8 frame so there could be some room to do that. but if you where to add " cabinets " then they really couldnt be sticking out from the back much cause the bench seats are on an angle and you might not be able to move them back up all the way.

well, I want thinking cabinets, more like removing the fabric on back and puting something like diamond plating on ( i like that Idea) then I wouldnt even rhino line it and then cut a 5"X5" square out and put it on hinges so you have a little secret trap door to stash some things in like a fifth of jack daniels or a pistol if youre going shooting or things like that. It would just be open on the inside cuz if you built cabinet inserts then it would hit the passengers back who leaned on it from padded side rite? I want to keep it flush with rear cargo area
