Default What 4X4s have you had

Hello Everybody, I am new to this forum but not to 4 wheeling. I have been away from it for a few years but I am getting back into it again. Anyway I was reading a lot of your posts and looking at the pictures and it got me thinking about the fun I have had in the past off roading, which led me to remember the different 4X4s I owned over the years that I had so much fun with. Now I'm not a hardcore off roader but I like to get a little dangerous at times.

I thought we could list all the 4x4s we had and what the pro's and con's were. Please humor me.

Here it goes.

1. 72 dodge club cab. Pro's: It was my first car in high school "1989" Con's: It was a gas hog and weighed about 10 tons.

2. 89 Nissan hardbody pickup. pro's: good low range gear ratio. con's: underpowered, poor articulation.

3. 75 international scout II. Pro's: this thing was a chick magnet when I was in college. Cons: carb float would close when descending a steep hill, causing the engine to stall and the power brakes to go away (that always sucks when your trying to impress a girl).point gap in the old mechanical distributer was to close and I could never get them gapped right so I was always changing Points.

4. 86 Isuzu trooper. Pro's: none Cons: this thing was the worst 4X4 I ever had. underpowered. top heavy (without a lift) all kinds of electrical problems. I could keep going.

5. 85 jeep cherokee XJ. Pro's it is a jeep. it had fair articulation and good low range ratio. Cons: 2.8 liter engine was underpowered.

6. 95 Jeep wrangler sahara YJ. Pro's: good power plenty of torque with 4.0 HO engine. Nice low range great all-a-round for 4wheeling. Con's: no room for gear if you wanted to take somebody with you.

7. 78 Ford bronco. Pro's It was a Ford. good stock ground clearance, short wheelbase great manuverability. Cons: it had a terible low range gear ratio 1.98 to 1 or something like that.

8. 2000 ford f150. Pro's: good power, nice low range gear ratio. cons: alot of junk down below the axles to get hit with rocks.

9. 98 land rover discovery. Pro's: great stock 4X4, locking difs, good weight balance, great articulation good low range. Cons: underpowered, expensive to fix.

10 2000 Grand Cherokee Limited (my current ride) I haven't had it very long so I don't have any information. But from all the pics I've seen on this forum it looks like it will be fun.

I've only owned one four by since. I did own a lifted dodge dakota but it was 2wd so that doesn't count in this thread.

2000 Jeep Wrangler:

2.5L 3sp auto. Lockers/swampers

Pros: Goes anywhere.
Cons: Lack of cargo space

You sure it had an 8.8?? the 7.5(which was the normal axle in that) looks almost identical(its a touch smaller)

You forgot to add the sexy Dana 35 front axle....

Default 4x4's

1982 D-50 4x4, bought new , beat to death, Hooker header add-a-leaf cut out fender wells for 11-15 True tracs. Raced in PNW4WDA for a couple years, usually trophied. Baja buckets, 5pt harness, window nets, custom front and rear tube bumpers and roll bar(only used twice).

194- Flat fender race Jeep, 350 Chev, turbo 400, dana 20, 44 rear with posi from scout II, front 30 from wagoneer. 4 link rear suspension with coils(this was in 1986-87) wagoneer front leafs rearched. Baja buckets from D-50 and harnesses.

1967 Ford Bronco, had 40" Gumbo MM's with a 302 w/3spd manual when I bought it. Tranny toasted so I traded the 40's for a Ford ThunderJet 429 and a C6, used Advanced Adapters T-case adapter and lowered the lift 3" so rear driveline angle would work. Full cage and bumpers I bent up myself. Went to 35" Buckshots. Traded in it on-

1988 Nissan SE xtra cab- V6 5spd, loaded included rear limited diff.

1979 Dodge Power Wagon 3/4 ton 360 auto, Warn 8000lb winch custom bumpers.

1995 Dodge Club cab 1500 5.7 auto longbox SLT. gutless.

19-- Jeep flat fender, D50 from above running gear(yes an IFS Jeep) and the 35" Buckshots from the Bronco. Body work done to make it straight and clean. when the 2.6 mitsu motor died in made an adapter to bolt up a 2.8 Ford V6 to the D50 5spd. Traded in on something.

1989 Chev. 1-ton srw, flat bed. Crew cab. 454 auto. Good looking used to tow toyhauler camp trailer to mx races for the kids. Sold and got a-

1980 Toyota 4x4, 20R long box with shot clutch and a lotta rust.

1988 Toyota reg. cab. 22RE- 5spd, loved this truck, took bumpers off the old D-50 that I had long since gotten rid of and installed them.
motor ate a timing chain at 250,000mi and kid had used it up so sold it.

1983 Toyta 4x4 22R long box, Offy intake and Weber 32/36, header, '92 A340 auto self made custom shift system, 4.88's and rear locker. Old Rancho 2-3" lift. Added Power steering. Self made bumpers and sliders and roll bar. Still have and drive this one. Use Garmin GPS for Speedometer.

2004 Dodge 3500 quad cab, cummins, auto. Stock. This ones a keeper too.

man that's a lot of rigs and I'm only about 24 or twice that old.

1988? ford bronco 2 learned to drive stick at 13 in it was showing my friend when we decided to jump it and broke a coil bucket

1991 ford ranger 4 inch lift on boggers my dad wanted a jeep so he traded it when i was 14 but i had fun with it

1994 ford ranger this thing was cool i put 33's on it at 14 then at 15 my stepmom wanted her 3rd $15,000 truck so mine went on the chopping block

1994 jeep cherokee 2 door at 16 i loved this thing to death 3in lift 30in bfgs i then found out the floors were gone my stepmom backed it into a tree and i hit 2 deer with it both late at night on the same road ouch but i sold it for what i bought it for

1998 jeep wrangler this was my favorite rig and i had to get rid of it because of gas 4in lift 33in bfg muds lots of custom work blew up a transfercase at 55mph took out the dana 35 3.07 gears and spider gears replaced with 4.10s rebuilt both axles completely then when gas got high i couldnt afford it on my part time job then lost my a$$ on it on trade $4000 with 130,000 miles and no rust

Now i have a rusted out pos 1996 cherokee my friend just backed into a week ago and now i am rebuilding just finished painting it and am going to town on the floors this weekend then I am going to lift and put it on 33s or 35s i havent decided yet but the fenders have been cut so its ready to go
