It's faster if you disconnect the fuel lines, wiring, exhaust donut, steering coupler, shifter & trans lines (if auto equipped), clutch cable if manual, 4 cradle bolts, and the upper strut mounts, then drop the cradle down, and you can use an engine hoist to lift the body. Support under rockers w/stands. Hard for me to explain, but easier to do than fighting that belt install in the cramped engine compartment.

Well, its a lot cheaper to change a belt before it breaks if that makes you feel better. I have yet to see one of those engines not bend valves when the belt breaks, but some people say it doesn't always bend valves.

I hated the PT cruisers working at jiffy lube a simple 10 minute oil change turned into 2 hours

Which is why I will not buy a vehicle that has a timing belt, if I can possibly avoid it. Belts are for pants!

Big selling point for the 2005 Suzuki Verona we got for my wife a few years ago? OEM double roller timing chain (I'm not wild about DOHC, but the chain makes up for it.)

Timing belts on a race engine that gets torn down at least once a year? Fine. On a production engine? Do I have the word "INSANE" or "STUPID" tattooed on my forehead? No, thanks.

(Front-wheel-drive is a big enough PITA to work on. For some odd reason, they always want to run an engine mount through the timing belt, just to make things worse...)

Agreed on the belt maintenance. Should be replaced every 60K. The Chrysler 2.0 and 2.4 engines rarely bend valves in auto equipped vehicles, but it happens a lot in manual equipped ones because the crank keeps spinning until the car stops, unless the driver has the presence of mind to depress the clutch and or take it out of gear. In the auto equipped ones, the crank stops spinng almost immediately.

I agree with you on that. It's a real pain changing it in the vehicle.

Did you guys not see my timing chain carnage pictures from the Altima I recently posted? They will wear out too... lol.

At least with a belt, it's sealed separate from the engine oil so that part is nice. I changed the timing belt on my wife's Miata and it was a breeze compared to the Altima. Then again, that's a RWD car; which makes sense.

transverse mount engines assemblies are dumb...

on a pt cruiser theres about 1 1/2 space between the inner fender and front of motor thats the reason for the space issue heres the procedurehttp://www.ptcruiserlinks.com/forum/...tructions.html
