feedback on the chevy 4l60E auto
Trying to find some feedback on the tranny that found in most chevy trucks, more so the checy S10. Whats bad about them, whats good about them. How long do they last and everything. Im use to the AW4 which is a great tranny. Any info will be helpful

The 4L60E is a pretty decent tranny and as it goes for most others, they start showing weakness when pushing a lot of power through them or a lot of abuse. Since you already mentioned 4L60E they didnt see a lot of improvements throughout the years but they improved some of the internals in 98 and again in 2002. Under stock or slightly modified power plants you should not have to worry about any weakness or problems.
The good about them is if you ever needed a trans shop for repairs, you probably would have no problem finding one that couldnt help you. For a modern O/D trans they are about as cheap as they get to rebuild too.

its mounted behind a 4.3 vortex. Spinning 37" bfg krawlers and has a D44 front and 9" rear with 4.88 gears. It also has around 130k miles on it. Sound like a bad combo for it and not worth the money?

My brother's failed twice in a stock S10 Blazer with the 4.3L. I have heard a lot of good about them but in my personal experience, its one of the last transmissions I would use in anything.

Had my 4L60E rebuilt by AAMCO at 43xxx miles, was leaking within 5000 miles. Stock S10, but I did do a fair amount of tough off roading in it. Average transmission at best, IMHO. I would NEVER use it with the combo you have on your rig.

the main thing the 4l60e break is the sun shell which there is a lot of heavy duty ones now. The second thing they do is burn up the 3/4 clutches which there are fixes to prevent that too. A stock 4L60E will most likely break turning 37s but built right it will last. I have built tons of 4l60s for drag racing and off road and have only had 1 blow up
