Dad needs ideas
So here is the deal, right now my dad owns a 98 ford expedition. He's had it for a while (and put it through its paces) but it's starting to get old on him. Now he is looking for something to replace it with.
requirements-
Thanks for your help.
requirements-
- Must carry at least 5 people
- Must have at least 6' long cargo area
- 4 wheel drive
- decent gas mileage (he only gets 12 currently)
- SUV body style,
- under $10k, (so used for sure)
- but will last for a while at least.
Thanks for your help.

1st gen Durango, 2000 to 2003 model year. Either 4.7L or the 5.9L. Can be had for less than $4K with low miles. I have a 2000 and love it. Pulls like a Clydesdale and gets decent MPG (16-22 HWY if you keep your foot out of it). Seats 7 with a bit of room to spare. 2nd and 3rd row fold to open up the 6ft + cargo area. Strong 4X4, great brakes. The SLT+ 4.7L with the OEM towing package comes with a bullet proof trans too. Just my $.02

Late 90s tahoe sbc 350 and a 4L60. Find one with 3.55s in it and they get 24mpg on the freeway and 20around town. Sbc 350 has torque for days so they still tow good.

I don't know if the grand cherokees quite have the cargo space, but they meet all the other requirements. Also we rented a Mitsubishi Montero for a couple weeks a few years ago and really liked it.

thanks for the replies guys. as for the grand, not enough room, which he needs. but we did find 2 durangos that we are looking at. an 01 asking 6k. and on 08 asking 16k, probably going for the 01, although older its much cheaper and still runs great.

The D's are good trucks. I had a '98 which was hit broadside and totaled and I now have had my '00 for 7 years. Drove the snot out of it in the mountains of North Utah and the HMMWV trails in on Ft. Bragg in southern North Carolina. Got it stuck 1 time, high centered it in a rut dug by Army hummers. If you get it, make sure its got the manual transfercase. Chryslers electronic cases suck.
