Default 90 yj crank no start died while driving

on the way out to the trail my buddies yj was running fine. we were on the highway at about 65mph when all of a sudden 2 or3 loud back fires and the thing shuts down. i checked spark and fuel. has both. any ideas?

CPS

Was the road wet or damp?

If it was than more than likely the CPS has a crack in it..

when it cranks it just dosent sound right... like it jumped time or something. i would think even with bad gas it would still try to start

it sounds like timing to me,but cps and cam pos sensor can also cause it. yours not having a dist,it is possible chain slipped.

Make sure distributor/rotor is turning while you crank it. I've seen the drive shear off before.
